Whiteshell Fish Hatchery Visitor Centre

Centres & Museums

In addition to the interior exhibit there are several large exterior interpretive panels, and additional optional exhibit components.

In partnership with designer James Carson, we developed an interpretive plan for the visitor centre and then implemented it. Nine interpretive themes focus the exhibits.

The interpretive package that Sherry put together for the Visitor Centre at the Whiteshell Fish Hatchery continues to give people participating in the hatchery tours an interesting lesson of how the hatchery and stocking programs work in Manitoba.

Challenge: The visitor centre is open to the public but not always staffed. Exhibits needed to be engaging but not easily tampered with or removed.

Special Features: Latex mounts of the fish were used in the display. Local granite was used for the flooring. The new building addressed a number of concerns, particularly accessible washrooms and shade for hot days.

Location: West Hawk Lake, MB
