Spruce Woods Visitor Centre

Centres & Museums

A challenging design where the physical layout had been decided before themes were developed or a word written.

With an opening date set and no themes developed or text written, Manitoba Parks approached me to help them meet their deadline. A very intense two months later the ribbon was cut. We had developed seven theme areas, researched and written text for 64 panels and found more than 600 illustrations/photographs for the exhibit.

The objective of the visitor centre is to stimulate, motivate and prepare visitors to explore the park.

Each panel used up to four levels of information to accommodate the different ways visitors move through the centre.

  • Level I: Theme Title (largest size)
  • Level II: Message components, subheadings
  • Level III: Details
  • Level IV: How to act on knowledge or where to see more

Location: Spruce Woods Provincial Park
